Coffee for Molly was inspired by Molly’s love of making coffee for her friends and family as a way to raise awareness of the vital importance of talking about mental wellbeing in safe spaces. As part of this concept we developed a mnemonic using Molly’s name with helpful pointers on how to open a conversation.
- MAKE TIME – we tend to lead busy lives but we must never forget the importance of making time for each other.
- OPEN A CONVERSATION – Not always an easy thing to do, but starting a difficult conversation can do significant good rather than cause harm.
- LISTEN – actively listen to the person by giving them your undivided attention. Reflecting on the words they have been saying is likely to allow them to open up more.
- LET THEM TALK – Leave any questions or comments until the person has finished talking so you don’t interrupt and prevent them from speaking up.
- YOU’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE – Poor mental health can affect anyone at anytime just like poor physical health. Talking about it is the first step towards recovery and our help cards can signpost to further sources of support.
We have also created a downloadable information sheet that will help to start those important conversations with useful tips, advice and examples.
