Molly Rose Foundation is calling on YOU to grab your running shoes and help us raise vital funds by taking part in this year’s Brighton 10K.
You’ll be following in the footsteps of Molly’s sisters Rebecca and Alice Russell, who alongside another runner raised close to £7,000 for the charity by running the Brighton Marathon last year.
Molly Rose Foundation has five places in the smaller 10k race on Sunday 6th April 2025, which takes a picturesque route along the Brighton seafront.
To join the MRF team, we would like you to set a minimum fundraising target of £200 for the 10K and your charity place fee will be paid by us. Your entry will also include an MRF running vest and T-shirt to wear with pride throughout your training and on the big day, other general MRF-branded merchandise including wrist bands and badges, and of course support from the team on the day to cheer you along.
Volunteers will be running alongside Regis Vata, a 22-year-old from Hertfordshire running the marathon route, who says: “MRF is a charity that is very close to my heart. Its message about the protection of young people’s mental health is important to get across.
“Training is going well I’m doing daily 5ks and a 10k on Sunday so as the date gets closer, I will ramp up the distance.”
We have filled our eight spaces for the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 6th April 2025, and among them are Katie Wills, 45, of Watford, who will also be running in our name.
She said: “I’ve run a half marathon for MRF and said I’d never run a full marathon but here we are, I must like a challenge!
“My motivation is raising awareness and support and as much money for Molly Rose Foundation as I can. What Ian has done is incredible and change will only happen if people put their head above the parapet. The more people get involved the more likely change will come.
“What the Russells have gone through and what they are doing in Molly’s name is amazing and it is such a worthwhile cause.”
This year will also see the return of our Coffee for Molly mental health initiative to the area for both events. It sees the placement of resources in coffee shops along the running routes to encourage customers to talk about mental health.
Eliza Turner, 23, from Tooting, is running her first marathon for Molly Rose Foundation in Brighton.
Eliza said: “It is a personal goal of mine to run a marathon so I thought 2025, why not? From park runs to running a marathon, I have a long way to go – but I am determined!
“I used to visit Brighton on holiday a lot and heard the course is pretty flat so it makes sense to run this one for me.
“Brighton has so many coffee shops and it’s a great cause to educate young people and let them know they can share concerns. Coffee for Molly is a brilliant idea.”
It is free for coffee shops to sign up and they will be stocked with Where to Find Help cards, conversation starter menus and coffee cup sleeves all making the public aware of Molly Rose Foundation and the importance of taking time to talk.
If you own or know of a coffee shop that would like to get involved, please email hello@mollyrosefoundation.org
Jon Peterman from Molly Rose Foundation said: “Molly brought joy to friends and family by always offering to make a nice coffee when we visited.
“So we decided to use her love of coffee to help people talk about mental health and hopefully take the weight off someone’s shoulders or even save a life.
“We love Brighton and its coffee shop culture so we’d really like more coffee shops to sign up so we can build on the success of this year.”
