Ian Russell is made MBE for services to child safety online

The Molly Rose Foundation is celebrating after Molly’s father and Chair of Trustees Ian Russell was officially made an MBE at Windsor Castle.

The Russell family was in attendance as Ian received an award for his services to online child safety from the Prince of Wales at an investiture ceremony on Wednesday.

He said: “This award reflects the dedication of all the volunteers and supporters, who have worked so hard to establish the Molly Rose Foundation as a successful charity in helping to prevent young suicide.”

He added: “But, of course, I suppose most of all it’s for my family, and that family still includes Molly.

“I think she’d be very proud of the work that everyone’s doing in her name, because she was one of the most caring people I’ve ever known.”

Ian also urged the next government to tighten up the Online Safety Bill, stating: “It can’t think of the Act is something that’s done and is already on the shelf.”

With family and friends, Ian set up the charity in Molly’s memory in 2017, following her tragic death at the age of just 14.

The aim of the foundation is suicide prevention and connecting young people to the help, support and practical advice they need, and Ian has contributed to the establishment of the Online Safety Bill.
