Molly Rose Foundation returns to face-to-face training

The Molly Rose Foundation has held its first in-person training course in nearly two years, following the pandemic. 12 delegates from both primary and secondary schools attended the Youth Mental Health First Aid course, hosted by accredited MHFA England trainer Lisa Pascoulis at Park High School, Stanmore.

Lisa now works for the Foundation on a part-time basis and has delivered similar training on behalf of the charity before. Using the MHFA England accredited syllabus, this course includes topics such as what is mental health and mental ill health, anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, suicide and psychosis. The course then discusses recovery and building resilience.  Each session provides attendees with the information and skills to be able to listen and offer support with confidence.

By the end of the course you will become a Youth Mental Health First Aid Champion and be better equipped to recognise the signs of mental ill health, to know what to do, and to feel confident to help in supporting those who are vulnerable.

The mix of delegates attending the event at Park High School in late-February enabled some productive discussions around how best to spot signs in all young people, lived experiences and strategies to assist.

Here’s some of the positive feedback provided to us:

“This course has been amazing”

“I now have a clearer understanding of the Mental Health Continuum

  • The Molly Rose Foundation now has an ambitious programme of future training events for other schools, youth groups etc, which is being coordinated on our behalf by Lisa. If you’d like to participate, and/or enquire about a course at your own venue, please get in touch with us via training@mollyrosefoundation.org – we’d be delighted to hear from you.
  • We are offering this and other courses to appropriate representatives from a broad selection of youth and education workers and volunteers, as well as teachers and parents.

If you’re struggling just text MRF to 85258 so you can speak to a trained volunteer from Shout, the UK’s Crisis Text Line service
