Today the #OnlineSafetyBill Joint Committee published its report. Their recommendations include stronger protections for children and measures to hold online services responsible for the risks created by their design and operation.
Molly Russell’s father, Ian says, “I am glad the era of a self-regulated internet is coming to an end. The platforms must now stop monetising misery and instead be compelled to prioritise safety.
The tremendous work of the joint Committee means effective regulation is another step closer. It is important to remember this isn’t a complete answer but the beginning of an ongoing process. A process that is vital if we’re to protect the young and vulnerable and help prevent the tragedy of lives ruined by tainted tech.”
